Paul
and Lesley Shilling currently live in Carlsbad, California. A native
of New York, Paul received a B.A. from Cornell University in Psychology
and M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Neurosciences from University California,
San Diego. Paul is a Research Scientist in the Psychiatry Department
at UCSD investigating the brain mechanisms underlying schizophrenia
and the antipsychotic drugs used to treat this brain disease. He developed
his passion for photography as a graduate student and found that this
art form perfectly complemented the highly logical thinking used in
his research.
Lesley,
California, born
and bred, received her B.S. in Special Education from Clarion University
in Clarion, PA. She has been a teacher for 27 years and is currently
working with learning disabled students at a magnet school for the arts
in North San Diego County. In 1990 she earned her MS in School Counseling.
Lesley began making jewelry in 2002 and is continually evolving as a
jewelry maker. Creating jewelry is completely different from teaching
and is great therapy.
Paul
specializes in nature photography, especially macro images of flowers,
butterflies and animals. One of his goals is to provide novel perspectives
of natural subjects. He has exhibited his award winning photography
in local shows and competitions and four of his images have been published
in the book, San Diego’s North County Coast: A Photographic Portrait.
Lesley
uses all natural materials in her jewelry. She specializes in ethnic
and contemporary styles. Lesley has exhibited her jewelry in local shows
and currently
has jewelry on display at Lacey on Harney Street in Old Town,
San Diego, California.
